CAPIZ – Two plastic sachets of suspected shabu and various drug paraphernalia were recovered during a surprise inspection at the Capiz Rehabilitation Center (CRC) on June 11.
CRC Jail Warden Arjuna Yngcong confirmed the discovery following the conduct of “Oplan Galugad,” a routine operation aimed at tightening security and deterring illegal activities within the facility.
The contraband was found on the floor of Selda Uno, a cell that houses several persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). Upon the discovery, Yngcong promptly notified the Roxas City Police Station to ensure proper handling and documentation of the recovered items.
The police will conduct laboratory testing to confirm whether the seized substances are indeed illegal drugs.
Yngcong clarified that the suspected shabu was not found in the direct possession of any inmate. However, individuals suspected of involvement in the incident will undergo strict drug testing as part of the center’s accountability measures.
In response to the incident, the jail warden reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to maintaining a drug-free environment at the CRC, stressing the importance of continued vigilance and enhanced security protocols to protect both staff and inmates./PN
