Antique placed under ‘blue alert’ due to ‘habagat’

ANTIQUE – The Provincial Government of Antique, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), has raised the province’s alert level to “blue alert” in response to the effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat.

In a memorandum dated June 11, 2025, PDRRM Officer Broderick Train announced the activation of the blue alert status for all provincial, municipal, and barangay emergency operations centers (EOCs).

The memorandum, titled “Activation of Blue Alert Status of Provincial/Municipal/Barangay DRRMC Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) in Connection with the Enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat),” cited the prevailing effects of the southwest monsoon, intensified by Tropical Storm “Wutip” located outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), as well as a low pressure area (LPA) spotted 600 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora as of 2 p.m. on the same day.

“These weather disturbances have already brought — and are expected to continue bringing — significant rainfall across the province,” the memorandum stated.

Train directed all municipal and barangay EOCs to likewise activate the blue alert level to ensure comprehensive monitoring, real-time reporting, stronger coordination, and full operational readiness in anticipation of possible adverse impacts.

Local disaster risk reduction and management councils were also urged to implement precautionary measures, including pre-emptive evacuation in high-risk areas and the early relocation of farm animals and livestock when necessary or once threats become imminent./PN
