ILOILO City – With the opening of classes today, June 16, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is implementing maximum security measures across Western Visayas to ensure the safety of thousands of returning students, teachers, and parents.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said all unit commanders across the region have been ordered to mobilize security forces in strategic locations, including school zones, transport terminals, traffic-congested roads, and other critical areas to prevent criminal activities and traffic disruptions.
“Police visibility is being intensified through mobile and foot patrols, supported by detective patrollers in key locations,” Wanky said. “We are fully prepared to secure the opening of classes and respond promptly to any security concern.”
Wanky assured that police across Panay Island, including the provinces, cities, and municipalities, will be at the forefront of maintaining peace and order.
He added that close coordination has been established with school administrators, local government units, and barangay officials.
To strengthen ground operations, PRO-6 will also tap traffic enforcement units, barangay tanods, and other force multipliers to manage road flow and assist with crowd control.
The public, especially parents and students, were reminded to stay alert, avoid high-traffic areas when possible, and cooperate with authorities for a smooth and safe school opening.
“Our stakeholders are our partners in ensuring public safety. With collaboration, we can maintain peace not only during the first day of classes but throughout the entire school year,” Wanky said./PN
