BACOLOD City – In preparation for the upcoming change in administration on June 30, a simple yet formal turnover ceremony was held between the transition teams of outgoing Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez and incoming Mayor Greg Gasataya on June 20 at the City Mayor’s Office, Bacolod City Government Center.
The ceremony marked the official transition of leadership, during which outgoing officials formally turned over duties, documents, and responsibilities. It symbolized continuity in governance, honored past public service, and welcomed the vision and plans of the incoming administration.
City Legal Officer Atty. Joseph Karol Chiu led the transition team of Mayor Benitez, now congressman-elect of the city’s Lone District. Representing the transition team of Mayor-elect Gasataya, the incumbent congressman, was Atty. Mark Mayo.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)–Bacolod, which supervised the transition process, described the turnover as smooth and orderly.
This was echoed by Atty. Marty Go, secretary-to-the-mayor, who confirmed that the turnover between the teams of Benitez and Gasataya was conducted seamlessly.
Observers noted that the simplicity and formality of the ceremony reflected the cordial relationship between the two leaders, who are known political allies.
Go expressed gratitude for the smooth transition, saying it would allow the incoming administration to immediately begin its work upon assumption of office at noon on June 30.
Benitez, who led Team Asenso Bacolod in the May 12 elections, had earlier emphasized that their platform was to continue and complete the projects and programs initiated during his term to fulfill his vision of making Bacolod a “super city.”
For his part, Gasataya highlighted the significance of the ceremony beyond its symbolic nature.
“The smooth and respectful turnover of documents to our transition team marks more than a ceremonial handover — it is a quiet but powerful moment of unity and responsibility,” he said. “It is a reminder that a harmonious and people-centered relationship ensures peace and continuity.”
“To Mayor Benitez’s administration, we extend our sincere gratitude. Your cooperation in this transition and your service to our people reflect our shared commitment to a brighter future for Bacolod City,” Gasataya added.
He also emphasized the value of integrity in leadership: “It takes integrity to pass the torch with full transparency and grace — and for that, we offer our sincerest thanks.”
Addressing Bacolodnons, Gasataya said, “This moment belongs to you. The trust you placed in us will be honored by every action we take from here on. With heart and capability, we move forward not as individuals, but as one community — united in purpose, driven by service, and anchored in hope.”
“Continue to watch us work,” he concluded./PN
