MANILA – Chery Tiggo Crossovers pulled off a 24-26, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 15-10 victory over Akari Power Chargers to stay undefeated in the PVL on Tour on Sunday night at the Ynares Center in Montalban, Rizal.
Ilongga Princess Ann Robles spearheaded the offense for the Crossovers with a triple-double of 23 points, 15 excellent digs, and 10 excellent receptions as they notched their second win in as many games.
Rookie Renee Peñafiel added 12 markers, while Baby Jyne Soreño contributed nine markers, including the two game-winning points in the fifth set for the Power Chargers.
The fifth set was a war of attrition, featuring five deadlocks, the last at 6, before Chery Tiggo uncorked a momentum-shifting 11-4 closing burst. Jasmine Nabor’s smart 1-2 play broke the tie and sparked the run.
An error from Soyud gave the Crossovers a two-point cushion before Imee Hernandez extended the lead with a quick attack. After Power Chargers Ivy Lacsina momentarily stopped the bleeding, Akari unraveled with three straight errors allowing Chery Tiggo to surge to a 13-9 lead.
Though Kamille Cal managed to deny Robles at the net, Soreño took charge from there, firing a massive kill and the final ace to seal their second consecutive victory.
Lacsina top-scored for the Power Chargers with 18 points, Negrense Christine Joy Soyud added 17, while Celine Domingo contributed 12 markers. They dropped to a 1-3 record.
Meanwhile, rookie AC Miner made her presence felt offensively as the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles scored a 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11 victory over the Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers.
Miner finished with 18 points as the Thunderbelles improved to a 1-1 win-loss slate. The Solar Spikers dropped to 0-4 record./PN
