ILOILO – The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Region 6 is urging the public to refrain from jumping to conclusions over the death of a police officer assigned to the Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo municipal police station, as the investigation into the case takes a deeper turn following an autopsy that revealed two gunshot wounds to the head.
In a statement, NAPOLCOM regionald director Atty. Jerome LB. Asuga appealed for restraint, emphasizing that speculations — particularly assumptions of suicide — may be harmful and misleading while the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) continues its official probe.
“We implore the public and all concerned sectors to refrain from drawing conclusions or spreading speculations on the cause of the incident, including any presumption of suicide, until the official findings… are formally released,” Asuga said.
The commission also urged the public to respect the privacy of the officer’s family and colleagues during this difficult time.
Although authorities have yet to release full details of the incident, NAPOLCOM reiterated its concern for the well-being of police personnel and highlighted its continued support for mental health programs within the Philippine National Police (PNP).
These include psychological assessments, wellness initiatives, and policy reforms aimed at addressing job-related stress.
Asuga assured the public that NAPOLCOM Region 6 is closely monitoring the case and committed to ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the investigation./PN
