BACOLOD City – The Department of Health (DOH) formally opens the Cancer Care Center at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) today, August 20, marking a major step forward in providing specialized cancer treatment in the Negros Island Region (NIR).
The newly built two-storey facility, worth P34 million for its first phase, began construction in 2024.
Mayor Greg Gasataya, who initiated the project during his term as congressman, said he also worked with the DOH to secure medical equipment for the center. These facilities are designed to make treatment more specialized and accessible to patients.
He added that plans are underway for further expansion to accommodate more people in need.
CLMMRH will oversee the operations of the center, which officials described as a milestone in the hospital’s mission to deliver comprehensive and affordable cancer care to patients across the NIR.
The opening ceremony will be attended by key hospital officials, national and local government leaders, stakeholders, and members of the medical community.
The inauguration was originally scheduled earlier this month but was delayed due to pending electrical connections.
District Engineer Leah Jamero of the Department of Public Works and Highways–Bacolod Engineering District explained that the facility required a separate power line and transformer to support its operations.
The DPWH worked with Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) to complete the installation./PN
