Level 4 fuel surcharge stays in September – CAB

THE Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has announced that the fuel surcharge will remain under Level 4 for September.

Fuel surcharge is the extra fee that airlines may collect in addition to the base fare to cover the costs incurred from the volatility of fuel.

Currently at Level 4, airlines could impose fuel surcharge rates of P117 to P342 for domestic flights, and P385.7 to P2,867.82 for foreign destinations, depending on the distance.

In an advisory dated Aug. 15 but posted Tuesday, Aug. 19, CAB Executive Director Carmelo Arcilla said airlines wishing to collect fuel surcharge must file their application to his office on or before the effectivity.

The conversion rate for the fuel surcharge in September is USD1 to P57.13.

For this year, the CAB first raised the fuel surcharge to Level 5 in March.

It went down from Level 4 since April to Level 3 in June, when passengers could only be charged with P83 to P300 for domestic flights and P273.36 to P2,032.54 for international routes. (PNA)
