MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered lifestyle checks on all government officials, beginning with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), as part of an intensified crackdown on alleged corruption tied to anomalous flood control projects.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the directive, describing it as a sweeping measure to ensure accountability in the executive branch.
“Ipinag-utos ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang pagkakaroon ng lifestyle check sa lahat ng mga opisyal sa gitna ng imbestigasyon sa ma-anomalyang flood control projects,” Castro said.
She added that the President also instructed a continuous review of DPWH records.
“Kasabay nito, binigyang-diin ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. ang tuloy-tuloy na pag-check sa mga records ng DPWH kaugnay sa mga ma-anomalyang proyekto,” she noted.
The order came as the government expanded its probe into flood mitigation projects that, instead of providing relief, have been flagged for questionable implementation and alleged misuse of public funds.
“Ongoing din ang investigation ng pamahalaan upang matukoy ang mga nasa likod ng mga proyektong dapat sana ay makakatulong na solusyunan ang malawakang pagbaha sa bansa,” Castro said.
Marcos himself recently inspected 11 flood control projects in Marikina, Iloilo, Bulacan, and Benguet, following complaints coursed through the government’s Sumbong Sa Pangulo portal.
Malacañang also confirmed that the President is open to meet with Baguio City’s Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who earlier submitted documents to Malacañang detailing alleged corruption in flood control projects.
Magalong previously claimed that certain lawmakers had received payoffs from contractors involved in infrastructure programs, including flood control. He said he is awaiting an invitation to Congress to share his evidence./PN
