ILOILO City – Science and technology took center stage in Western Visayas as the 2025 Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTW) officially opened yesterday in Roxas City with a caravan that gathered multiple government agencies and local stakeholders in Capiz.

Spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology Region (DOST) Region 6, the three-day event aims to showcase how science, technology, and innovation (STI) can drive regional development and build smart, sustainable communities.

Anchored on the theme “Siyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Kinabukasan” (Science, Technology, and Innovation: Partners for a Strong, Comfortable, and Secure Future), this year’s RSTW emphasizes the sub-theme “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities.”

The kick-off motorcade, which started at Robinsons Place Roxas and ended at People’s Park in Baybay, drew strong public attention, signalling community anticipation for the upcoming activities.

The RSTW, which runs from September 10 to 12 at Robinsons Roxas and the Circulo Convention Center, is being held in partnership with Capiz State University (CAPSU), the Roxas City government, the Provincial Government of Capiz, and Robinsons Roxas.

Thousands of participants — including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), students, LGUs, national agencies, and private sector representatives — are expected to join.

Exhibits will showcase innovations designed to improve daily living and business operations, while forums will tackle topics ranging from disaster resilience and governance to the blue and green economies, education, robotics, and emerging technologies.

Organizers said the event is not only a platform to present cutting-edge developments but also a venue for collaboration, networking, and knowledge-sharing that can push communities toward sustainable growth.

“The overarching goal of the 2025 RSTW is to highlight the transformative power of science, technology, and innovation in spearheading regional development and building a durable future for all communities involved,” the DOST stated./PN
