38 PRO-6 cops undergo 5-day drone training

ILOILO City – A total of 38 police personnel from across Western Visayas have begun a five-day drone training seminar at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) multipurpose hall, aimed at strengthening law enforcement operations through modern drone technology.

The seminar covers essential topics such as drone operation, maintenance, aerial surveillance, mapping, and monitoring. It also includes discussions on the legal and ethical use of drones in police service.

PRO-6 director Brigadier General Josefino Ligan said the initiative is part of the office’s capability enhancement efforts under Project DAPAY, a pioneering program that leverages drone technology as a tool for law enforcement, disaster response, and public safety.

“We should know the importance of embracing innovation in policing. Drones are more than just flying machines — they are our eyes in the sky, saving lives, preventing crimes, guiding our operations, and enhancing crowd control with speed and accuracy,” Ligan said.

He also encouraged participants to maximize the opportunity, noting that the training is more than just a seminar but a chance for growth.
“Every flight you take, every lesson you absorb, will strengthen our collective mission to make Western Visayas a safer place. Remember, the true test of learning is not found in this classroom but in how you apply it in the field, in service of our people,” he added.

The training is facilitated by expert lecturers from the Philippine National Police National Headquarters— Corporal Rodelio Daguio and Patrolman John Paul Merto — both highly skilled drone operators with advanced knowledge and experience in national-level best practices./PN
