CAPIZ – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) inaugurated the iHub Capiz on September 10 in a ceremony led by DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr.
The launch, one of the highlights of the 2025 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) held from September 10 to 12, marks the establishment of the 59th innovation hub in the country.
Positioned to strengthen Capiz’s role within the Western Visayas innovation ecosystem, the hub is expected to support advancements in food security, sustainable marine projects, and the integration of Industry 4.0 practices into local enterprises.
Envisioned as more than just a facility, iHub Capiz will serve as a collaborative platform for students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. It will offer mentorship, cutting-edge tools, and industry linkages to foster a strong culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the province.
In his message, Solidum stressed the importance of innovation in addressing local challenges and securing a sustainable future for Capisnons. He was joined by DOST-6 Director Rowen Gelonga, Capiz Provincial Director Juafe Abareles, and Assistant Provincial Director Ryan Vilmor Dumpit, who reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing startups and supporting local enterprises.
This year’s RSTW theme, “Siyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan,” underscores the role of science and technology in building resilience and prosperity. Capiz last hosted the event in 2018, signaling the province’s growing commitment to innovation-driven development.
With the launch of iHub Capiz, DOST aims to empower communities with innovative, locally responsive solutions — further positioning Capiz as a potential center of innovation in the Visayas./PN
