MANILA – Veteran Negrense boxer Rowel Rosia silenced critics of his slump by stopping Denmark Quibido in the eighth round to seize the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super flyweight title in Putatan, Muntinlupa City.

For Rosia, a native of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, the victory marked a resurgent moment after losing three of his last four matches against foreign-based opponents over the past two years.

Rosia came out firing, punishing Quibido with combinations in the early rounds, though the younger fighter found openings with his counters. By the eighth, the 37-year-old Rosia pressed harder, landing successive blows that floored Quibido and forced a stoppage.

The win improved Rosia’s record to 18-12-2 with 10 victories coming by knockout. It was his first triumph since knocking out Cris Paulino in 2021.

Quibido, 29, saw his slate fall to 13-5-2, with seven knockouts. He has now dropped four of his last five bouts.

In the undercards, Lito Badenas stretched his winning streak to six after overpowering Pablito Canada for a seventh-round stoppage in their lightweight non-title clash. Badenas, now 7-2-1 with six KOs, overwhelmed Canada (8-29-6, 2 KOs) with relentless power punching.

Meanwhile, Angelo Reyes returned to winning ways with a sixth-round unanimous decision over Rudy Britanico. The win lifted Reyes’ record to 3-2-2, while Britanico slid to 3-2-0./PN
