BACOLOD City – The city government has extended burial and financial assistance to the family of an 11-year-old boy who was killed after being struck by lightning at their home in Barangay Granada on October 15.

Mayor Greg Gasataya personally visited the family of the victim, Nathaniel Palic, to offer condolences and deliver the city’s assistance.

Two days after the tragic incident, Gasataya met with the victim’s mother, Marevic Palic, and handed over financial aid to help the bereaved family. The assistance came from the mayor’s personal funds, complementing the burial support provided by the city government through the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD).

The amount of the cash assistance was not disclosed.

According to Marevic, she was resting at home that Wednesday afternoon when tragedy struck. Her eldest son, Nathaniel, was standing in the kitchen during a sudden thunderstorm when a lightning bolt hit their house, killing him instantly.

Marevic, who is four months pregnant with her sixth child, said she is trying to cope with the loss with the help of relatives and neighbors. Her husband works as a utility worker at a resort.

The city mayor assured the family of the city government’s continued support and monitoring of their welfare, reaffirming the local government’s commitment to helping families in times of distress./PN
