Magnitude 5.5 quake jolts Negros Occidental town

BACOLOD City – A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked Candoni, Negros Occidental early Monday morning, November 3.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the tectonic earthquake struck at 3:06 a.m. 16 kilometers southeast of Candoni, with an 89-kilometer depth of focus.

Intensity IV was felt in Candoni, and in Dumaguete City and Sibulan in Negros Occidental.

Intensity III was recorded in Jordan, Guimaras; and in Bago City, Sipalay City, and La Carlota City in Negros Occidental.

PHIVOLCS also recorded the following intensities:

* Intensity III – Jordan, Guimaras; Bago City, La Carlota City and Sipalay City in Negros Occidental;

* Intensity II – Malinao, Aklan; Culasi, San Jose, Sebaste, and Valderrama in Antique; Nueva Valencia, Guimaras; Argao, Cebu; Cebu City; Dipolog City, Liloy, Sindangan, and Siocon in Zamboanga Del Norte; Dumingag, Zamboanga Del Sur; and

* Intensity I – Anini-y, Antique; Roxas City, Jamindan and Tapaz in Capiz; San Lorenzo, Guimaras; Bacolod City; Talibon, Bohol; Asturias and Talisay City in Cebu.
