AKLAN — Typhoon “Tino” left more than P10.6 million worth of damages and displaced over 33,000 families across Aklan, according to the latest reports from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6.
In its November 6 report, the PDRRMC said total damages reached P10,619,744.74, with the infrastructure sector bearing the brunt of the destruction.
Infrastructure damages were estimated at P9.128 million, affecting various public buildings and government facilities across several towns. The municipality of Nabas recorded the highest damage, amounting to over P9 million, contributing significantly to the province’s total losses.
The agricultural sector also suffered, recording P1.366 million in damages, primarily from destroyed crops and disrupted livelihoods of local farmers. Meanwhile, P125,000 in damages were reported to lifeline utilities, including power and other essential public services.
Authorities said the PDRRMC continues to monitor the situation closely as local government units (LGUs) conduct rapid assessments to facilitate immediate rehabilitation and recovery efforts. Relief assistance is also being prepared for residents most affected by the typhoon.
Based on DSWD’s initial assessment as of 4 a.m. on November 6, a total of 33,675 families in Aklan were affected by the typhoon’s onslaught.
Among the municipalities, Buruanga recorded the highest number of affected families at 6,228, followed by Nabas (4,269), New Washington (3,696), Altavas (3,103), and Batan (2,789). Other towns with affected families include Ibajay (2,594), Balete (1,761), Malay (1,571), Kalibo (1,507), Tangalan (1,152), Makato (1,297), Madalag (1,325), Banga (874), Lezo (617), Libacao (416), Malinao (175), and Numancia (301).
DSWD Regional Information Officer Therese Fely Legaste reminded the public to remain vigilant and stay updated on weather advisories, noting that more weather disturbances are expected as the year nears its end.
Legaste assured that DSWD-6 is ready to augment resources and provide relief assistance to affected families and individuals in coordination with the provincial and local governments.
