ILOILO City – The city government has issued a warning after reports surfaced that individuals posing as government personnel were collecting documents and money from people in exchange for the supposed facilitation of financial or medical assistance.
City government spokesperson Joy Fantilaga-Gorzal, speaking for Mayor Raisa Treñas, stressed that the local government has zero tolerance for fixers and that all assistance is processed only through authorized staff.
“Waay kita nagapa-fixer. Kadto diri sa city hall with your requirements,” she said, urging residents not to transact with strangers claiming to represent the city.
The warning followed complaints involving two persons who allegedly introduced themselves as city hall insiders and offered to process aid applications. “
They allegedly collected important documents like medical abstracts and billing statements from residents seeking city government assistance but have since become unreachable, Fantilaga-Gorzal said.
A public advisory has since been issued to affirm that neither individual is authorized to transact on behalf of the city.
Fantilaga-Gorzal reminded residents seeking help to go directly to the ATIPAN Center on the 7th floor of city hall and present their requirements in person.
“Our staff are always ready to accommodate and assist anyone who needs help. Indi magpatunto sa mga nagapakilala nga taga-city hall kag nagapangayo sang kwarta ukon dokumento,” she said.
City hall is urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious individuals or unauthorized transactions to the Mayor’s Office or the nearest police station./PN
