ILOILO – With Iloilo Province racing to meet its 2026 targets on malnutrition reduction and food security, more than 1,300 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from across the province are gathering in Iloilo City for the 3rd BNS Convention 2025 from November 24 to 25 — a massive mobilization aimed at strengthening frontline nutrition workers as key drivers of community-based nutrition programs.
Organized by the Federation of Provincial Nutrition Volunteers of Iloilo, Inc., in partnership with the Provincial Nutrition Committee under the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO), the convention centers on the theme “BNS: Kaagapay sa Pagkakaisa, Katuwang para sa Nutrisyong Sapat at Seguridad sa Pagkain tungo sa MoRProGRes Iloilo.”
According to organizers, the event “highlights the vital role of BNS in championing nutrition, food security, and community well-being,” emphasizing their importance in achieving a healthier and more resilient Iloilo.
This year’s convention features inspiring resource speakers, interactive learning sessions, wellness activities, and recognition ceremonies designed to “strengthen our commitment to MoRProGRes Iloilo,” the province’s development framework.
Among the topics to be discussed are:
* BNS as Nutrition Movers in the Community: Promoting Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for lifelong Nutrition by Ms. Adhara Alcudia Sebuado, Founder of Breastfeeding Ilonggas
* Food Security at the Household Level: Practical Approaches and Success Stories by Hon. Fatima Estranero Ebanen, President of the Igbaras Federation of Farmers Association
* Behavior Change Communication for Nutrition: Practical Skills for Barangay Nutrition Scholars by Mr. Don Sasu, Project Development Officer of the PSWDO
* Mind Matters: Mental Health Awareness for Frontline Nutrition Workers by Ms. Charlotte Cacho-Leigh, MSGC, RGC, Guidance Counselor of ISAT-U Iloilo City
Organizers said this series of sessions is expected to “elevate the BNS spirit, service, compassion, and integrity” as part of honoring the province’s “frontline champions of nutrition in the community.”
The mission of the convention is to equip all BNS workers with continuous training, technical support, and resources to enhance collaboration and innovation in delivering grassroots nutrition services.
