ILOILO City — Consumers of Iloilo City’s lone power distributor are in for a treat this December as MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) announced a decrease in its power rate by P0.5081 per kilowatt hour (kWh) from last month.
Currently, the average residential rate is P11.3477 per kWh.
This adjustment was driven by a drop in electricity demand, which increased the supply margin and helped lower the average Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) rate. As demand went down, more power became available, leading to lower average WESM prices.
Despite momentary power plant outages during the typhoons, the immediate restoration of affected facilities, coupled with reduced demand, ensured that no major disruptions were felt in the power market.
There’s also a notable lower transmission charge by P1.7918 per kWh from P1.8612 per kWh last month due to a decrease in the cost of regulated charges and ancillary services from the reserve market.
There are also no changes with the rate of MORE Power’s distribution, supply, and metering charges.
MORE Power also cited a decrease in the system loss rate, currently standing at P0.4086 per kWh from P0.4512 per kWh last month due to the lower generation and transmission cost.
“We will always assure our customers na even though these generation charges and transmission charges are all pass-through, we see to it that we always make an effort to source kung saan man may pinakamababang presyo ng kuryente at any given time,” said Chief Operating Officer Engr. JM Zaporteza.
The lower December rates come as timely support for Ilonggos during the holiday season, underscoring MORE Power’s ongoing efforts to balance system reliability with cost efficiency./PN
