BACOLOD City — The city government has released more than P2.4 million in financial assistance to 814 scholars under the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) program.
The payout for the first batch of beneficiaries was held on December 24 and was fast-tracked ahead of the Christmas holiday to ensure that scholars could immediately use the funds for their academic and personal needs during the season.
Each scholar received P3,000, in line with Mayor Greg Gasataya’s continuing commitment to support students through financial assistance.
PESO-Bacolod coordinator Jovelyn Canoy reminded beneficiaries to value their scholarship slots, stressing the competitiveness of the program.
“Out of more than 7,000 applicants, you were chosen. This is a privilege and a responsibility. We hope you will give importance to your slots, follow the program guidelines, and continue serving the community,” Canoy said.
Mayor Gasataya, who addressed the scholars through a phone call, extended his Christmas greetings and explained that the early release of the allowance was intended to reach beneficiaries before the holidays.
He also clarified that the payout covered only the first batch of scholars, with additional releases scheduled in the coming days.
