ILOILO — Dueñas’ Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan was injured in an apparent accidental firing at her residence in a subdivision in La Paz, Iloilo City on the morning of December 30.
The incident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. while Lamasan was in the dining area with her live-in partner, Lord Byron Torrecarion, who works at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Central Office.
According to Torrecarion, the vice mayor was handling her firearm when it suddenly discharged, striking her in the right side of the stomach.
Lamasan was immediately transported to Iloilo St. Paul’s Hospital, where she was receiving medical treatment as of this writing. Hospital officials report that she is currently in stable condition and under close monitoring.
Police Captain Jeffrey Delgado, chief of the La Paz police station, said that authorities were notified by the hospital at around 7:30 a.m. after the incident was reported. Police officers were conducting a thorough investigation, including interviewing Torrecarion and other potential witnesses, to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
Iloilo City Police Office director, Colonel Kim Legada, confirmed that the incident is still under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that the incident may have been caused by an accidental discharge of the firearm, although authorities are working to verify this.
Lamasan, a prominent figure in Dueñas’ local government, has been actively involved in community programs and public service initiatives. As of press time, residents and colleagues were closely monitoring her condition as authorities worked to clarify the events that led to the accident./PN
