CAPIZ — An 80-year-old man was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked by his own son in Barangay Dinginan, Roxas City.
The victim, identified as Dionisio Arciga, was resting in a hammock inside their residence at around 10 p.m. on January 4 when his 56-year-old son, Jonery Arciga, allegedly assaulted him, according to the Roxas City Police Station.
Police said the suspect reportedly cut the ropes of the hammock, causing the elderly man to fall to the floor. The attack reportedly escalated when Jonery allegedly used a bolo to inflict multiple injuries on his father.
Despite sustaining serious wounds, Dionisio managed to leave the house and seek help from his brother, who lives nearby. The victim was later rushed to a private hospital in the city, where he remained under medical care as of this writing.
Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene, prompting authorities to launch a hot pursuit operation. Police said the motive behind the attack remained unclear and was still under investigation.
Neighbors expressed shock over the incident, noting that while family tensions may have existed, no prior violent incidents had been reported.
The Roxas City Police Station urged the public to report any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect./PN
