ILOILO City — Anticipating large crowds of devotees for the annual solemnity of Nuestra Señora dela Candelaria, the Archdiocese of Jaro has released the complete schedule of Masses and related liturgical activities for February 1 and 2, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Candles and Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral.
The early release of the schedule is meant to help devotees plan their attendance and prevent overcrowding during one of Western Visayas’ most significant religious celebrations.
The solemnity will begin on February 1 with the Vesperal Mass at 5 p.m., to be presided over by Archbishop-emeritus of Jaro Jose Romeo O. Lazo.
The rite of coronation of the image of Nuestra Señora dela Candelaria will follow at the Cathedral balcony, led by Archbishop of Jaro Midyphil B. Billones.
On February 2, the Feast Day itself, the solemn pontifical Mass with the blessing of candles will be celebrated at 7 a.m., presided over by Archbishop Billones.
In the afternoon, a solemn procession along the traditional route will be held, followed by the 5:30 p.m. solemn concelebrated Mass to be presided over by Bishop Ruben C. Labajo of the Diocese of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
