ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has rolled out a full-scale security deployment for the Jaro district fiesta this February 2, placing police personnel “on place” across key venues to secure the religious and cultural activities expected to draw thousands of devotees and visitors.
Officer-in-charge director Police Colonel Wilbert Parilla said the ICPO has activated a comprehensive security plan that includes strategic personnel deployment, heightened visibility patrols, traffic management operations, and the establishment of Police Assistance Desks in convergence areas.
The plan is being implemented in close coordination with the Iloilo City Government, barangay officials, force multipliers, and partner agencies to ensure public safety and orderly crowd management.
Parilla personally conducted on-site inspections of major venues and emphasized that police preparedness must be matched by public cooperation.
“As we honor Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, we call on everyone to work with us so we can all enjoy a peaceful, safe, and secure Jaro Fiesta 2026. The police are on place, alert, and fully prepared to protect our devotees, residents, and visitors,” he said.
He added that the ICPO is aiming to replicate the security gains achieved during the recently concluded Dinagyang Festival 2026.
“We have proven that discipline, coordination, and vigilance can ensure safe celebrations. This is the same commitment we bring to the Jaro Fiesta,” Parilla said.
Police authorities urged the public to remain vigilant, observe safety protocols, and immediately report suspicious activities to the nearest police personnel or assistance desks.
Devotees and visitors were also advised to plan their trips ahead, heed traffic advisories, and cooperate with law enforcement to prevent congestion and untoward incidents.
The feast of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, also the patroness of Western Visayas, is celebrated every February 2 and centers at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral, traditionally drawing large crowds from across the region and beyond./PN
