MANILA – San Miguel Beermen successfully retained their crown after a 92-77 beating of TNT Tropang 5G in Game 6 of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup Finals last night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
June Mar Fajardo finished with a double-double of 29 points and 23 rebounds as the Beermen notched their second straight crown by finishing off the Tropang 5G, 4-2.
Jaymar Perez added 19 markers. John Rodney Brondial also tallied a double-double of 15 points and 11 board, while Marcio Lassiter chipped in 13 as the Beermen secured its 31st PBA title.
The Beermen surged to a 26-5 start behind early offense from Fajardo, Lassiter, Perez, and Chris Ross but the Tropang 5G relied on Calvin Oftana’s exploits to trim the deficit to 10-26.
Oftana continued his hot shooting to start the second frame as they rallied to within 33-34, but consecutive conversions from Perez allowed the Beermen to build a 49-39 advantage at the half.
The Tropang 5G threatened anew in the third quarter as they took a 68-66 lead on a triple by Jordan Heading, but the Beermen answered with back-to-back hits from Celedonio Trollano and Fajardo to take a 70-68 edge.
The Beermen pulled away anew in the final quarter with inside conversions from Fajardo and Brondial followed by a three-point play for Perez to widen the lead anew to 17 markers.
Oftana paced the Tropang 5G with 28 points, Heading contributed 14 markers, while John Paul Erram ended with 11 markers./PN
