ANTIQUE — The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Provincial Extension Office in Antique released indemnity checks to 98 farmer-beneficiaries from the municipality of Valderrama on January 28 at the Valderrama Cultural and Tourism Center.
PCIC Antique head Clogene Galuego said the farmers received a total of P488,917 in crop insurance indemnities to cover losses caused by previous typhoons, pests, and plant diseases.
In a phone interview, Galuego explained that the beneficiaries were farmers registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), which qualifies them to avail of free crop insurance coverage from the PCIC.
The RSBSA is a government database of farmers, fisherfolk, and farm laborers used to identify beneficiaries of various agriculture-related programs and services.
The 98 farmers from Valderrama form part of the 1,915 farmer-beneficiaries across the province of Antique currently availing of crop insurance under the PCIC program.
Earlier, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. distributed P485,213 worth of crop insurance indemnities to 70 farmers during his visit to Hamtic, Antique on January 19.
The President expressed hope that the indemnity checks would help farmers recover from their losses, replant for the next cropping season, and restore their livelihoods./PN
