MANILA — Malacañang pushed back against remarks branding the younger generation as mentally “weak,” asserting that the Filipino youth remain the country’s strongest source of hope and a critical pillar of nation-building.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro rejected the characterization following comments by Sen. Robin Padilla linking alleged mental weakness among the youth to emotional vulnerability and heavy social media use.
“Hindi po naman dapat nating sabihin na ang ating mga kabataan ay mahina, dahil ang kabataan ay siyang pag-asa ng bayan,” Castro told reporters.
Castro underscored that young Filipinos continue to play a vital role in shaping the country’s direction, invoking national hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s enduring belief that the youth are the nation’s hope.
She said any concerns raised about the condition of the youth should be framed around concrete solutions rather than labels.
“Kung mayroon pong gustong iresolba si Sen. Robin Padilla, siguro tingnan na lang po natin kung ano ba talaga ‘yun nais niya para sa kabataan,” she said.
The Palace official added that the Marcos administration is intensifying programs aimed at strengthening young Filipinos, particularly in education and healthcare.
“Kaya nga ang Pangulo, pinagbubuti ang mga programa para sa edukasyon, pangkalusugan lalung-lalo na sa mga kabataan,” Castro said.
