GUIMARAS — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office reported diverse market value trends in the average retail prices of milkfish (bangus), round scad (galunggong), and tilapia across the province during the first phase of December 2025 (Dec. 1-5).
Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare stated that the findings were generated from the Retail Price Survey (RPS) of Selected Commodities. This data serves as a critical input for the computation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which monitors inflation and purchasing power.
According to the report, a kilogram of bangus consistently recorded an average retail price of P225 during the first phase of December and the second phase of November 2025 (Nov. 15-17).
“This was lower than the average retail price of P230 per kilogram in the first phase of November 2025 covering the first five days of the month,” Losare said.
She added: “Compared with the prices from the previous year, this was higher than the first and second phases of December 2024 (Dec. 1-5 and Dec. 15-17) at P200 per kilogram.”
In contrast, galunggong saw a notable price hike. The average retail price reached P235 per kilogram in early December, surpassing the P220 average posted throughout November. This also marks a significant increase from the December 2024 price level of P200.
Meanwhile, fresh tilapia remained relatively stable at P160.00 per kilogram. This price is comparable to the rates seen throughout November 2025 and is actually lower than the P165.00 average recorded during the same timeframe in the previous year.
Meanwhile, among the five provinces in Western Visayas, Guimaras recorded the second lowest average retail price per kilogram for bangus at P225, just above the province of Aklan at P180.00 per kilogram. The highest average retail price of bangus was recorded in the province of Capiz at P260.
“This was followed by Antique and Iloilo City at P250 each, and Iloilo province at P230,” Losare said./PN
