CAPIZ — The Roxas City Government is set to launch a free three-month training program in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) aimed at equipping residents with essential digital skills and expanding their employment and livelihood opportunities.
The initiative, spearheaded by the city government under the leadership of Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, seeks to prepare participants for the demands of an increasingly technology-driven economy.
The program will be implemented in partnership with Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) in Estancia, Iloilo. It is open to bona fide Roxas City residents aged 18 to 50.
Only 20 slots are available, and enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
The training will be conducted in six phases, beginning with basic computer hardware servicing. Participants will learn how to dismantle, assemble, and repair computer units—skills that can open opportunities in technical services and small-scale entrepreneurship.
The course will also include software training, with modules on Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel to enhance workplace productivity. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of print media design and modern visual communication.
Hands-on sessions will cover the use of Canva for digital and print media creation, as well as basic animation, ensuring that trainees develop practical and marketable competencies.
Mayor Dadivas underscored the transformative potential of the initiative.
“Upon completion of the program, participants will be empowered to start small businesses using just their mobile phones, pursue remote work opportunities, or secure employment in government and private offices,” she said.
“This program is not just about learning; it is about igniting aspirations and fostering innovation,” the mayor added.
The ICT training program aligns with the city’s broader vision of digital transformation. By equipping residents with relevant digital skills, Roxas City aims to strengthen its position as a competitive and innovation-driven urban center.
The recently established Roxas City Innovation Laboratory Hub is expected to further support this goal by providing opportunities for collaboration and technology-based initiatives.
