BACOLOD City — A 17-year-old girl died after she was allegedly mauled by her father inside their home in Fortuneville Subdivision, Barangay Rizal, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on March 9.
The victim, identified by police only as “Precious,” a senior high school student, was found bloodied inside a locked room of their house after authorities forced their way in during a police response.
Her father, identified as alias “Joe,” 41, a tricycle driver and resident of the same subdivision, was arrested and may face charges of parricide.
According to the Sagay City Police Station, the victim’s grandfather went to the police station at around 9:50 a.m. to report that his granddaughter had been forcibly locked inside a room by the suspect.
Police immediately responded to the residence. They discovered the teenage girl lying face down on the floor, bleeding heavily, while the suspect was reportedly sitting on a bed nearby and staring at the victim.
The girl was immediately rushed to the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital, but the attending physician declared her dead on arrival.
Initial police findings indicated that the victim sustained severe head injuries, allegedly caused by repeated blows using a motorcycle telescopic part.
Investigators said the incident may have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the father and his daughter. Police added that the suspect had repeatedly scolded the victim prior to the incident.
However, authorities noted that the suspect’s responses during questioning were incoherent and inconsistent, raising concerns about his mental condition.
Family members also told police that the suspect had reportedly not slept for about a week and had been taking medication.
Authorities further learned that the suspect and the victim’s mother are already separated.
The suspect is currently detained at the Sagay City Police Station detention facility while investigators prepare the appropriate charges against him./PN
