BACOLOD City — The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Bacolod has approved a resolution commending Mayor Greg Gasataya for spearheading the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in city police stations, marking a step toward greener governance and modernized public safety operations.
Authored by Councilor Atty. Caesar Z. Distrito, the measure underscores the city’s commitment to sustainability by integrating eco-friendly technologies into essential government services, particularly in law enforcement.
Distrito described the initiative as a “forward-looking approach” that enhances police mobility and operational efficiency while supporting broader environmental goals.
“The adoption of electric vehicles in our police stations is a concrete and meaningful step toward a cleaner and more sustainable Bacolod,” Distrito said, noting that the shift also reduces dependence on fossil fuels and helps cut long-term operational costs.
Electric vehicles are widely recognized for their energy efficiency and lower fuel and maintenance costs compared to conventional combustion-engine units. They also significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions—an increasingly important consideration for local governments seeking to align with national and global climate targets.
The councilor added that deploying EVs in police stations signals a shift toward “green policing,” where public safety initiatives are paired with environmentally responsible practices.
Beyond recognition, the resolution urges the city government to institutionalize the transition by prioritizing electric vehicles in future procurement programs, when feasible.
Proponents said such a policy would ensure that sustainability becomes a long-term pillar of Bacolod’s governance framework.
“The City of Bacolod has the opportunity to lead by example,” Distrito said. “By institutionalizing the use of electric vehicles, we can promote energy efficiency, reduce fuel expenditures, and contribute to environmental sustainability for future generations.”
