ILOILO City – Voter registration activities across Western Visayas will be temporarily suspended from April 1 to 5, covering Holy Wednesday to Easter Sunday, as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Regional Office 6 orders a pause in operations to allow personnel to observe the Holy Week.
The advisory, issued by Comelec Region 6 under Regional Election Director Dennis Ausan, said both regular work and overtime services will be suspended during the period.
“This measure is implemented to allow personnel to properly observe the Holy Week and to facilitate safe travel to and from their respective provinces,” the agency stated.
The work suspension follows a directive from Comelec executive director Atty. Teopisto Elnas Jr., aligning regional operations with national instructions.
As a result, no voter registration services will be available during the five-day period, including applications for new registration, transfer, reactivation, and corrections of records.
Regular office transactions and voter registration will resume on April 6.
Comelec clarified that the ongoing voter registration period, which runs from October 20, 2025 to May 18, 2026 under Resolution No. 1117, remains in effect despite the temporary suspension.
Election offices continue to accept applications from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including holidays, except on December 24, 25, 30, and 31, 2025, as well as January 1, 2026, and key Holy Week dates such as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Black Saturday.
The poll body reminded applicants to bring the required documents when availing of services.
For regular voters aged 18 and above, a government-issued ID and its photocopy are required.
Applicants aged 15 to 17 under the Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) must present a photocopy of their birth certificate along with a government-issued or school ID.
For corrections of entries, a photocopy of the birth certificate is needed, while those seeking changes in civil status must submit supporting documents such as a marriage certificate, court order, certificate of finality, or CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage), whichever is applicable./PN
