ILOILO — The Iloilo Provincial Government is set to roll out a three-day Livestock and Poultry Week beginning Tuesday, April 28, as part of intensified efforts to strengthen food security and promote agri-tourism through innovation and sustainable farming practices.
Organized by the Provincial Agriculture Office, the event, which runs until April 30, brings together farmers, stakeholders, and industry players in a series of trainings, competitions, and service activities aimed at boosting productivity and resilience in the livestock and poultry sectors. fileciteturn0file0
With this year’s theme, “Strengthening Livestock and Poultry for Sustainable Food Security and Thriving Agri-Tourism,” the celebration underscores the provincial government’s commitment to empowering local producers while advancing modern and sustainable agricultural practices.
Activities kick off on April 28 at Casa Real, Iloilo Provincial Capitol, with an opening program highlighted by the awarding of the first GAHP-certified poultry farm in Western Visayas and recognition of farmers practicing good livestock and poultry production standards.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will also open the livestock and poultry products exhibit and trade fair at the capitol grounds, alongside a series of lectures covering topics such as fancy chicken raising, heritage chicken production, and rabbit management. A cooking contest featuring rabbit and goat dishes is also scheduled.
On April 29, sessions at Days Hotel in Iloilo City will focus on ruminant production and poultry layer management, emphasizing data-driven approaches to improve farm output.
The final day, April 30, will feature free animal health extension services — including consultation, vitamin supplementation, and deworming — in the barangays of Igdalaquit and Cabangcalan in Miagao town, as well as a fancy chicken expo competition at the Capitol grounds.
The livestock and poultry exhibit and trade fair will run throughout the three-day event.
