VICE GANDA again made another cryptic remark, this time taking aim at individuals earning hundreds of thousands without putting in the work, stressing that it is unfair to those working extra hard just to receive minimum wages.
The “It’s Showtime” mainstay said this on Labor Day, May 1, as he and his fellow hosts Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario talked to Filipino workers during the noontime program’s “Laro Laro Pick” segment.
Drawing from the experience of one of the participants, the TV hosts pondered how among Filipinos, there are those who graduated but could not land a job; those who did not finish college but have a job; and those who are able to secure a job but are not paid what they rightfully deserve.
“Meron ding nakasweldo pero hindi naman nagtrabaho. ‘Di ba? Ang sakit sa Pilipinas!” Vice Ganda lamented. “Ang daming nagtrabaho, pero hindi sumu-sweldo nang tapat. Merong hindi pumapasok pero ang laki ng sweldo—tapos wala tayong magagawa.”
“Imagine mo, ‘yung mamamayang Pilipino nagtrabaho nang eight hours, nag-jeep, nag-LRT (Light Rail Transit), binaybay ang tanghali, hindi nakakain [tapos] minimum [ang sweldo],” he continued. “Tapos merong hindi pumapasok pero daang libo ang sweldo.”
“It’s just not fair!” he stressed.
The hosts further gave emphasis on how most Filipino households follow a tight budgeting routine in order to survive.
“Nakakapanlumo talaga. Ang hirap mag-budget. ‘Yan ang araw-araw na problema ng mga Pilipino,” Vice Ganda said. “Ang sweldo isang buwan pinagpapaguran pero ilang minuto lang nauubos. Minsan hindi pa nga kinikita, ubos na rin.”
Expressing hope, he continued, “Sana gumanda ang sitwasyon ng mga manggagawa sa Pilipinas. Tumataas ang gasolina, ang bilihin, tumataas lahat pero hindi tumataas ang sweldo… Hindi siya balanse.”
Vice Ganda also honored Filipino workers and thanked them for their hard work.
“Maraming salamat dahil pinapanatili niyong humihinga kahit naghihingalo ang ekonomiya,” he stated.
While Vice Ganda did not mention any names in his statement, some netizens pointed its relevance to Sen.
