ILOILO City — As rising fuel costs continue to drive up prices of goods and household essentials, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is rolling out a month-long “Diskwento Caravan” across Western Visayas to help families cope with mounting expenses ahead of the opening of classes for School Year 2026-2027.
The regional initiative, set from May 15 to June 7, aims to provide consumers access to discounted Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPCs), including school supplies, as millions of parents prepare for the June 8 resumption of classes in public schools.
“With the rising costs of goods, we know every peso counts. That’s why the Diskwento Caravan is hitting the road this May across Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Capiz, and Iloilo to bring you much-needed relief. Get direct access to basic necessities, prime commodities, and local favorites at prices lower than retail. We’re bringing the discounts to you to help ease the burden on your wallet while supporting our hardworking local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs),” part of the DTI Region 6 announcement stated.
DTI-6 information officer Judy Sajo said Ilonggos can expect lower-priced BNPCs and school supplies through the caravan, which was intentionally timed before the reopening of classes.
She explained that areas labeled as “in-store” mean participating stores and retailers themselves will offer discounted products, with signages installed to inform the public that they are part of the “Diskwento Caravan.”
Meanwhile, areas specifically marked “Diskwento Caravan” will host groups of partner retailers that will directly sell products at discounted prices in designated venues.
“In light of rising prices, we encourage parents and students to visit the Diskwento Caravans near you to avail of school supplies and Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPCs) at discounted prices, ensuring your family stays budget-ready for the upcoming school year,” Sajo said.
The schedule for the Diskwento Caravan 2026 is as follows:
• May 15 to June 7 – Guimaras (In-store – Balik Eskwela)
• May 15 to 31 – Iloilo City (In-store – Balik Eskwela)
• May 17 – Caluya, Antique (Diskwento Caravan)
• May 26 to 27 – Lambunao, Iloilo (Diskwento Caravan)
• May 29 to 31 – Kalibo, Aklan (In-store – Balik Eskwela)/PN
