AGUSAN DEL SUR — Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) and the Negros Island Region (NIR) continued their strong medal surge in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa after delivering multiple gold-medal performances in athletics, chess, muay thai, and field events on Tuesday in Prosperidad here.
Leading the charge for Western Visayas was Aklan standout Jhon del Rosario, who struck gold in the secondary boys’ 400-meter dash at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Sports Complex, highlighting another productive day for the region in the country’s premier youth sporting event.
WVRAA also showcased dominance in chess competitions as Thea Grace R. Clar captured the gold medal in the Elementary Chess Final after outplaying competitors from various regions nationwide.
Western Visayas further ruled the Elementary Girls Team Chess competition to secure another gold medal, while Mica Claire R. Clar added a silver medal in the same discipline.
In combat sports, Princess Elijah Casas delivered another gold medal for Western Visayas after prevailing in the Secondary Muay Thai Final against the Southern Regional Athletic Association.
WVRAA athletes also produced podium finishes in athletics events.
Narrish Alimodian bagged a silver medal in the secondary athletics finals, while Angelica P. Belandres earned silver and Angel B. Villagracia settled for bronze in the 100-meter hurdles.
Elementary trackster Jeza Mae Eulogio likewise captured a silver medal in the athletics finals following a strong performance against top runners from across the country.
Meanwhile, the NIR Visayan Vipers sustained their momentum in the national meet after harvesting multiple medals in athletics and field events.
Ashley Nicole Silvor clinched the gold medal in the Elementary Girls 400-meter run after displaying impressive speed and endurance throughout the race.
Christine Rose Toquero also struck gold after topping the Secondary Girls Javelin Throw event.
Additional gold medals came from Jonel Metoda Jr. in the Elementary Boys Javelin Throw and Marjen Iwayan in the Elementary Girls Javelin Throw.
Rajib Ash Catenza chipped in a silver medal in the Elementary Boys 110-meter hurdles event.
