ILOILO — More than 1,700 barangays in Iloilo province are set to receive fresh financial assistance from the national government.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. received a P344.2-million grant intended to fund scholarships and grassroots development projects in communities across the province.
The funding, released through President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “Bawat Barangay Makikinabang” Program under the Socio-Civil Projects Fund (SCPF), will benefit all 1,721 Iloilo barangays, with each village receiving P200,000.
The distribution of the grant was held Thursday, May 28, during the Liga ng mga Barangay 2026 National Congress at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Under the program, half of the allocation or P100,000 per barangay will be used for scholarship grants for five senior high school or graduating college students in every village.
The remaining P100,000 will fund various grassroots development projects identified by barangay officials.
Joining Defensor in receiving the ceremonial check were League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Iloilo Chapter president and Badiangan mayor Suzette Mamon, Liga ng mga Barangay Iloilo Provincial Federation president Amalia Debuque, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Dennis Ventilacion, Provincial Treasurer Jean Maire Umadhay, and Head Executive Assistant to the Governor, Atty. Ruel Von Superio.
Provincial officials said the grant is expected to strengthen educational support and accelerate small-scale development initiatives in barangays throughout Iloilo province./PN
