BACOLOD City — The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and the Bacolod City Government honored their respective delegations following the successful participation of Negrense athletes in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2026 held in Agusan del Sur from May 24 to June 1.
In a recent social media post, the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental announced that it hosted a Heroes’ Welcome and Thanksgiving Dinner for the athletes, coaches, and delegation officials who represented Negros Occidental and the Negros Island Region (NIR) in the country’s premier sporting event for student-athletes.
Medal-winning athletes and their coaches will also receive incentives from the provincial government in recognition of their achievements and contributions to the province’s sporting success.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson congratulated the athletes and coaches for their outstanding performance, saying they brought pride and honor to Negros Occidental through their accomplishments in the national competition.
Among the province’s top-performing contingents was the athletics team, which delivered an impressive medal haul of five gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Government is also preparing a recognition program for the city’s athletes who competed in the weeklong national meet.
In a media interview on Monday, Mayor Greg Gasataya said he is scheduled to meet with officials of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Bacolod Division to discuss plans for welcoming and recognizing the city’s delegation.
The mayor congratulated the delegation, particularly the athletes, for giving their best and representing Bacolod with distinction. He assured medal-winning athletes that they would receive incentives from the city government.
However, the amount of the incentives has yet to be finalized, as city officials are still determining the total number of medalists eligible for financial rewards. Details are expected to be announced after the meeting with DepEd officials.
A total of 286 delegates from Bacolod City participated in this year’s Palarong Pambansa.
As part of its support for the delegation, the city government provided financial assistance to 188 athletes. Each athlete received an allowance package consisting of a P600 daily meal allowance and a P400 daily playing allowance for 10 days, along with a 30-day training allowance worth P300 per day.
The athletes received a total of P19,000 each during the send-off ceremony held at the lobby of the Bacolod City Government Center on May 15.
