ILOILO City – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Western Visayas has ushered in a new chapter of environmental leadership following the appointment of Atty. Ramar Niel Pascua as officer-in-charge Regional Executive Director (OIC-RED), succeeding retiring Regional Executive Director Raul Lorilla.

Pascua’s appointment took effect on June 11 under DENR Special Order No. 2026-318 signed by DENR Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna.

The appointment places Pascua at the helm of DENR’s operations in Western Visayas, where he is expected to lead efforts in environmental protection, natural resource conservation, and sustainable development across the region.

“The DENR Region 6 family stands ready to support Director Pascua’s vision and leadership in protecting, conserving, and managing the rich natural resources of Western Visayas,” the regional office stated in a congratulatory message.

Before assuming his new post, Pascua served as regional director of the Environment Management Bureau (EMB), an attached agency of DENR.

His designation came following the retirement of Lorilla, who recently celebrated his 65th birthday and concluded decades of government service.

A formal turnover ceremony, dubbed the “Passing the Key of Environmental Leadership,” was held on June 11 to mark the transition.

The event was attended by key DENR officials, including Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Edgardo M. Rostata and Assistant Regional Director for Management Services June Melissa C. Garol, as well as provincial and community environment and natural resources officers, division chiefs, and personnel from DENR-6, EMB-6, and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)-6./PN
