BACOLOD City — Years of dedication to grassroots volleyball development earned Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts team manager Jose Montalbo one of the highest recognitions from the Bacolod City government after he was honored during the city’s 88th Charter Day Awarding Ceremony at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Montalbo was among the distinguished individuals cited for their contributions to Bacolod City’s growth and development, receiving a citation award for his efforts in promoting volleyball and helping nurture young athletes in the City of Smiles.
A longtime volleyball advocate, Montalbo has played a key role in supporting the Bacolod Tay Tung High School volleyball program while helping create opportunities for aspiring players to develop their skills and pursue their sporting ambitions.
In his acceptance message, Montalbo expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to the sport.
“I am truly honored and grateful to receive this citation award. I sincerely thank everyone who recognized my efforts and passion for volleyball,” he said.
Montalbo said supporting volleyball has remained one of his foremost priorities as both a sports enthusiast and community supporter.
“Being the team manager of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School volleyball team, and as a volleyball supporter and enthusiast, it has always been my goal to help develop and support the sport in our city, Bacolod,” he said.
He also underscored the life lessons athletes gain from the sport, stressing that volleyball helps shape character as much as it develops talent.
“Volleyball is more than just a game for me—it teaches discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and heart. Seeing athletes grow, improve, and chase their dreams is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do,” Montalbo added.
The awardee dedicated the recognition to the wider volleyball community that continues to strengthen the sport in Bacolod.
“This award is not just for me, but for everyone who continues to support volleyball—our players, coaches, schools, families, and the entire volleyball community,” he said.
Montalbo likewise pledged to continue supporting programs aimed at developing future volleyball standouts in the city.
“Thank you for this recognition. I will continue to support and serve volleyball with dedication and passion,” he said.
