CAPIZ — The Provincial Government of Capiz marked National Arbor Day and Provincial Arbor Day with a large-scale tree-planting activity in Barangay Manoling, President Roxas on June 25, reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
Led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, the initiative resulted in the planting of more than 1,000 seedlings consisting of various native and fruit-bearing tree species.
The seedlings were planted on a vacant lot in the barangay, a site identified to help enhance the local ecosystem and contribute to the province’s reforestation efforts.
Gov. Castro said the activity goes beyond beautifying the landscape, emphasizing its role in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.
The tree-planting activity was spearheaded by the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) headed by Ronald Allan F. Cullo.
Employees from various provincial government offices joined the initiative, demonstrating a shared commitment to environmental conservation and community participation.
Participants highlighted the importance of collective action in promoting cleaner air, restoring green spaces, and protecting natural resources amid growing environmental challenges.
Provincial officials who took part in the activity included Board Members Trina Marie Ignacio, Emmanuel Billiones, and Blesilda Almalbis, as well as Roxas City Councilor Jaime Altavas.
Representatives from private and civic organizations, including JCI Roxas Halaran and Toyota Roxas City, also joined the tree-planting effort, underscoring a collaborative approach to environmental stewardship.
Provincial officials said the activity aims to encourage greater community involvement in environmental programs and reinforce the message that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility.
