MANILA — Filipina tennis sensation Alexandra Eala will take center stage at this year’s US Open Fan Week after being selected to headline the prestigious Stars of the Open presented by Chase exhibition on Aug. 27 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, further cementing her status as one of the world’s brightest rising stars.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that Eala will join Brazil’s Joao Fonseca, American standouts Iva Jovic and Learner Tien in the annual showcase, one of the marquee attractions leading into the US Open main draw.
The four young stars will compete in a series of exhibition matches featuring different pairings, with organizers also teasing additional surprises during the event.
Eala, 21, earned her place in the exhibition after another breakthrough campaign on the WTA Tour. The USTA recognized the Victorias City, Negros Occidental native as the highest-ranked player in Philippine tennis history after breaking into the WTA Top 30.
She is currently campaigning in both the singles and doubles events of Wimbledon in London, England.
Fonseca, 19, is the youngest Brazilian ATP Tour champion in the Open Era, while 18-year-old Jovic has climbed into the WTA Top 20 and is now the fourth-highest-ranked American woman.
Tien, 20, has risen to a career-high world No. 18 and made history in 2025 by becoming the youngest man in the ATP Rankings era to defeat a Top-5 opponent at the Australian Open.
Now in its fourth year, the Stars of the Open exhibition has become one of the signature attractions of US Open Fan Week, giving spectators an early look at some of tennis’ most promising young stars before the year’s final Grand Slam tournament begins./PN
