ILOILO City – Persistent southwest monsoon (habagat) rains continued to cripple parts of Iloilo City, leaving 27 barangays flooded and affecting 1,371 residents from 400 families as authorities remained on heightened alert amid fears of further inundation, according to the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
The EOC’s situational report on July 12, said days of continuous heavy rainfall had submerged low-lying and riverside communities, prompting sustained monitoring, relief operations, and damage assessment across the city.
Flooded villages included:
* Tanza Timawa II in the City Proper
* Nabitasan, Lopez Jaena Sur, Divinagracia, and Jereos in La Paz district
* South San Jose, Taal, East Baluarte, and West Habog-Habog in Molo district
* PHHC Block 17 and Calahunan in Mandurriao district
* Camalig, Calubihan, Lanit, Democracia, and San Pedro in Jaro district;
* Mohon, Sto. Domingo, Sooc, and Sta. Cruz in Arevalo district, along with other communities identified in the EOC report
Despite the widespread flooding, city disaster responders remain on the ground to closely monitor water levels, assess the extent of damage, and provide immediate assistance to affected residents.
The EOC also reported damage to residential properties, with two houses in Barangay San Roque, Jaro sustaining partial damage, while one house in Barangay Balantang, Jaro was totally destroyed due to the severe weather.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), together with other response agencies, continues to distribute relief assistance and coordinate with barangay officials to address the immediate needs of displaced families.
Authorities urged residents living in flood-prone and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, closely monitor official weather advisories, and immediately coordinate with barangay officials should floodwaters continue to rise.
