DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque expressed confidence that export growth will increase further, citing gains from new free trade agreements (FTAs) and local business support.
In a speech during the opening of the National Exporters’ Fair at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City Wednesday, July 22, Roque said the Marcos administration remains committed to business and entrepreneurial growth by strengthening stakeholder ties, pursuing more FTAs and boosting core export drivers like electronics.
“For the Marcos admin, of course, the free trade agreements. Once we conclude all of those, that’s a win for the export industry. So, we need to push it,” she said.
Roque declined to provide specific figures on the possible growth of exports this year, citing the risks caused by the ongoing Middle East crisis, among others.
Government data show Philippine export growth averaged an annual increase of 10.6 percent from January to May 2026 to total USD37.87 billion, following a record-high 15.3-percent expansion to USD84.48 billion last year.
Roque said the big jumps in exports growth means “our products are accepted globally.”
“So let’s take advantage of this opportunity that the Marcos administration is giving… Let’s work closely together to make sure that we get things done,” she added.
The trade chief led the opening of the National Exporters’ Fair, with 200 businesses joining the event until Sunday.
Roque said the DTI continuously creates nationwide venues, such as trade fairs, to help businesses, especially micro, small and medium enterprises, showcase their products. (PNA)
