ANTIQUE – Twenty unlicensed firearms and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered to the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) on Friday, August 14.
The homemade guns were turned over through the assistance of village chairmen from various barangays in the municipality of Valderama.
The surrendered firearms included eight long-barreled bolt-action shotguns, 10 caliber .38 revolvers, one caliber .22 magnum, and assorted ammunition.
According to APPO director Colonel Ryan Devaras, this accomplishment was the result of the Police Community Relations and community engagement efforts by the APPO through the Valderrama Municipal Police Station.
“Itong accomplishment ay part ng ating pagpapatupad ng mga community-based initiatives laban sa paglaganap ng loose firearms sa area ng Antique,” Devaras said.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director Brigadier Gen. Randulf Tuaño emphasized that active coordination and unity with local communities remain vital in preventing loose firearms from being utilized in criminal activities.
“Ang bawat baril na kusang isinusuko ay isang panganib na naaalis sa komunidad,” said Tuaño. “Patuloy nating palalakasin ang community engagement upang maiwasan ang krimen at maprotektahan ang buhay ng ating mga mamamayan.”/PN
