A house of straw?

THERE ARE data centers in about 179 countries (thanks Google), but do we need them?

They are massive, consume electricity, and use millions of gallons of water every day.

They also consume the data that we generate, books, music and anything they can scrape off the internet in order to “learn”.

My usage of the internet is low level and I find artificial intelligence (AI) answers often based on search replies from the first page rather than detailed analysis.

I am sure that others make better use of AI and data centers but I am a normal citizen. I don’t want more expensive energy charges, less available water especially given the world is getting hotter, and the land they consume could be park land.

Teenage girls behavior

There are a number of films dealing with groups of nasty teenage girls who exclude others or push some out of their group. This is also sadly true in the real world; bullying is common and wrong.

This type of bullying has been taken to the limit by United States Donald Trump who has warned Oman that if they interfere with discussions about the Strait of Hormuz, he will “bomb the (expletive) out of Oman.”

Oman has been helping with the negotiations and are an ally of the US but now they face attack from the US and a fairly serious bombing.

Given that they are “friends”, imagine how Trump treats enemies, real or imagined, but unfortunately we already know what happens.

Stopping teenagers from bullying others is difficult as they are often immature and lack self-control, but an 80-year-old man shouldn’t behave like that and yet what do we see?

Once the Middle East situation is resolved — if it can be — then he will possibly return to annoying Canada, then Greenland, and maybe your country next.

He doesn’t seem to need a reason or have a logical approach and it might not just be a new tariff.

Secret ballroom?

I am confused with the Truth Social post from President Trump: “This event would never have happened with the Militarily Top Secret Ballroom currently under construction at the White House. It cannot be built fast enough!” in reference to the incident at the White House Correspondents’ dinner.

Building rules and regulations seem to be written by people who hate building and love paperwork. Even they don’t make mention of “Militarily Top Secret Ballrooms”, so what is it?

There have been a series of plans displayed, all seemingly only printed with yellow ink. There are massive windows and a rooftop laden with drones and weaponry but no columns in the middle to support it.

Surely it’s time to stop this farce, top the military bunker with a few feet of steel and concrete, find the plans for the East Wing and rebuild it to restore dignity to the Whitehouse.

This is a familiar issue for world leaders who often overstep their power, misuse the military they lead, or just build monuments to themselves that will later be torn down. Have any of your country’s leaders put themselves before the people they should be serving?

Jumping the AI queue

A local young man wanted to do a Pilates class but it was booked out so he asked artificial intelligence (AI) to do something and it got him a spot by dropping someone else off the list.

A bit of luck, or AI hacking a system, or just a test run for our future masters?

It sounds silly but so did planes, cars and probably trains at some stage.

The technology could go wrong, the basis of many movies; it could affect the share prices, for the few that can afford batches of shares; or it could help me.

I could use it to get me better seats at a show, to adjust the traffic light sequences so I always get green, or a real achievement would be to get my numbers to be the lottery numbers but only once every month so it doesn’t look suspicious.

AI isn’t the real problem, it’s AI on the loose being used by a maniac with “a few screws loose up top”, in the same way that a gun isn’t dangerous, it’s the person holding the gun.

Make sure the “off” switch is big and easy to access./PN
