ILOILO City – Disaster preparedness initiatives and programs should be supported by media, an official of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 6 said during the launching of the cable TV program “Buylog sa Pagpangaman” yesterday on Channel 31 of Sky Cable.
Director Rosario Cabrera said the program is part of the Information, Education, Communication activities on disaster risk reduction and management, originally by the OCD and Central Philippine University (CPU).
The Philippine Information Agency Region (PIA) Region 6 is also part of this initiative.
“The program can further widen our reach to fully inform students, communities and the general public on disaster risk reduction and management,” said PIA director Janet Mesa.
Sealing the partnership was a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Sept. 19 at the Knowledge for Development Center, Henry Luce Library, CPU.
CPU president Dr. Teodoro Robles said the program is a good venue to reach people and strengthen the school’s advocacy on disaster risk management and climate change.
The program’s editions will carry news, advisories, success stories on disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation, as well as discuss issues and rally community participation in disaster risk reduction and management.
“Buylog sa Pagpangaman” is telecast over the CPU channel while the taping of the editions are held at the Education Media Center.
PIA shall help conceptualize the program, prepare scripts, serve as co-anchor and review programs for quality control while the OCD shall provide anchor and guests, content, and provide logistics as needed.
CPU, on the other hand, shall provide its facilities for the production and airing of the program, provide resource persons and other manpower needed.
Program anchors are Elsa Subong of PIA and Cherry Naranjo of the OCD.
The MOU covers a period of two years.
The regular show is scheduled on Thursdays, while the replays are on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. (PIA-Iloilo/PN)
