ILOILO City – A clinic dedicated for the prevention, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infection (STI) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) will open in this city next month.
The “5/11 Klinika Ilonggo” will be set up at the city’s social hygiene clinic in Barangay Tanza, City Proper.
This is designed for males having sex with males (MSM) and transgender people, according to City Health Officer chief Dr. Bernard Caspe.
The clinic will operate from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. to accommodate those who work during the day or would rather seek the services at night for the privacy that they need.
“These hours are customized for specific clients based on what works better for their schedule,” said Caspe.
MSM has been cited as the most prevalent mode of HIV transmission.
The regional office of the Department of Health said 40 percent of HIV cases were acquired from homosexual relationships; 30 percent, heterosexual; and 30 percent were bisexual.
The clinic will be officially launched on Oct. 3, 2016. (PNA)
