ILOILO – At 2:30 p.m. today, Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. will deliver his State of the Province Address (SOPA) at the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), his sixth since 2011.
He is expected to detail his achievements, programs and projects in the past year and his plans for the remaining months of this year and 2017.
Provincial government officials and employees and local government officials are attending Defensor’s SOPA.
Already, first-termer vice governor Christine Garin lauded Defensor.
“For the past few years nakita naton ang mga programs ni Gov. Kanami sang iya programa sa health. Subong ang mga hospitals naga-improbar, indi lang sa hitsura kundi ang services,” said Garin.
She also cited Defensor’s program on social services and peace and order.
Today, Garin expects the governor to also tackle the illegal drugs problem.
Meanwhile, 3rd District’s Provincial Board member Emmanuel Gallar looks forward to hearing the governor report on the status of the province’s infrastructures and agriculture, among others.
Board member Demy Sonza of the 2nd District said Defensor may also cite the accolades that Iloilo harvested under his watch such as the Seal of Good Local Governance from the Department of Interior and Local Government, Best Public Employment Service Office Award and Best Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit Award.
“The governor wants to leave a good legacy to the people of Iloilo,” said Sonza.
Defensor was elected governor in 2010 and was reelected in 2013 and May this year. He also held the post from 1992 to 2001./PN
