BORACAY – A total of 739,960 foreigners — mostly Koreans and Chinese — went to this island resort from January to October this year.
The figure is 16.61-percent higher than the 634,539 who visited in the same period in 2015.
Koreans remained the main source market with 36.23-percent share of visitors (268,099) — an 11-percent surge from 241,516 in 2015.
Chinese tourists meanwhile numbered 244,422, up 64 percent from their number in the same period last year.
Visitors from Taiwan numbered 50,338; Malaysia, 22,905; and the United States, 19,080.
These top five visitor-generating markets accounted for 81.74 percent of the total foreigner visitors during the 10-month period, according to data from the Malay Municipal Tourism Office.
In October alone 118,682 tourists visited Boracay.
Domestic tourists numbered 58,368, up from 43,954 last year.
All in all, Boracay had 1,466,746 tourist arrivals from January to October — up 12.24 percent from 1,306,799 in the same period last year. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
